February 20, 2000

y apologies for not posting yesterday, although with it being a holiday, I was unwilling to follow my normal routine of getting up early, showering, and writing. There's always this morning to catch up... I had a pretty good weekend, all things considered. I spent most of Saturday messing around with my computer and computer room (dining room). First, I swapped my computer into its new case, and made sure it worked properly. Then, I moved some boxes around, unpacked a few things, moved some more boxes around, moved the computer table and the buffet from wall to wall, and then reset up the computer. A full day's messing around, I can assure you. On the other hand, with all this messing around, I think I've gained about 25 square feet of usable space in my apartment, and I'm no longer bothered by the morning sun (which is still streaming in this morning, but no longer falling on my monitor). This is much more comfortable, and space efficient. I've even got my printer set up, which hasn't been an issue since I so rarely print.

Sunday, I got together with John, and a new friend from work for lunch. I decided to see if I could find a new way to get to my office, without getting on the highway, and was fairly successful, by driving through Ramona. I need to do it one more time to catch one road that looked interesting, and that should solve my problems with the highway getting backed up. I have to admit, it adds about 15 miles to the trip, but in the daylight, it was quite a lovely drive. After lunch, we went to look at houses, as John and I are considering becoming roommates, and wanted to see what the market looks like. A fun afternoon, culminated by nice deserts at Chili's.

Monday, I did some additional work in the apartment, and decided to take a drive. First, I ended up in downtown San Diego, and saw a place down on the waterfront that looked interesting... kind of a "touristy" shopping area right on the water. I'll have to go their when a guest comes in town. I saw that they have a kite shop down there, along with Tshirts, and the other gewgaws (it was hard to see everything, but I was stuck at a light for about 3 minutes, so I had time to peer out the window). Then, I decided to head out to Julian, a small town that I'd visited with my parental units two years ago when I was out here for Christmas. A lovely drive through the hills, ending up just above 4000 feet. I bought myself one of their famous apple pies, to commemorate the experience. Talk about good! Finally, as a small celebration, I went bowling, and shamed myself for a couple of games in the 140s, and came through with a 215 for the last game.

All in all, it was a good weekend. I'm obviously getting comfortable enough with the state of the apartment to treat myself to a few outings. We'll have to see what other trouble I can get into on weekends now.

Dave, thanks for starting posting again. It's nice to keep in touch with what is happening in your life. Johnny, hang in there. Don't sweat being bitchy, just keep off that damn nicotine! And Corey, you have my undying admiration for all that you're doing in your life. You are a beacon of intelligence and stamina amidst the seas of mediocrity that we tend to reward in our culture in the United States.

Hmmm, just tried to post this, and can't reach the server. I'll check at work to see whether it's PacBell again, or not.

Later: Yep... it was PacBell. I could reach the server fine from the office, just not from the house. Just got home (it's 10:56PM). Went out with some folks from the office to dinner at Olive Garden, and had a good time. I work with a bunch of snerts! :)
