s many of you know, I currently live in a gated community (this won't last too much longer, as the rent and space are twice what I need/can afford). Several months ago, I noticed that when the guard was no longer at the gate, sometime around 8:30 to 9PM, they started leaving the gate open, rather than shutting it and allowing the residents to use their remote gate openers. When I finally stopped and asked the guard why, it turned out that the receiver for the remote radio signal had gotten water in it, and no longer worked. Of course, the company that made that specific receiver was no longer making it, or even parts for it, so they were in the process of purchasing and installing a replacement, which wouldn't be complete until the end of February. In the meantime, while there was no guard on the gate, they were leaving them wide open. Not really an ideal situation, I thought, and then called the rental company to tell them I'd need new remotes soon to get into the subdivision. They assured me that they would call and order the new remotes, and have them delivered to the house directly. Of course, last night at 11:15PM when I got home from Game Night, I found the gate closed, and me with no new remotes. Fortunately, another car came along fairly quickly, and I piggybacked in with him. But I'll have to make a phone call today and get this straightened out!

My father continues to noodle around in Southern California, and has been staying with me over the weekends. This has been a great help, as his Habitat for Humanities training have helped push me over the edge in starting on the DVD rack I've been planning for several months. This past weekend, we cut the 6x3 shelves down to 6x1s, and I routed down the edge for an attractive look. We then sanded them down in preparation for painting, which I managed to put off until this weekend. Of course, I'm weeks ahead of where I expected to be (it has been one of those "when I feel like it" projects), which is nice. When we're done, it should look fairly similar to the original TV stand, with black shelves and glass blocks holding it up. Quite flexible, too, as I'll be able to set it up as tall as I need, or around corners, etc.

Life's been pretty full around the house, but I need to start thinking about packing things up in preparation for moving. I know I have until June 1, but I want to find a place by May 1, and use the month to move, and I know I'm going to be out of the country for at least one of those weekends to attend a wedding.

As John pointed out, I haven't had time to post as often as I'd like, but I've also been a bit bereft of things that were worth posting about. I don't want to be one of those people who post complete inanities just for the sake of posting. It doesn't seem fair. So, if I don't have the time/inclination, I just don't write. Of course, I always keep my eyes open for interesting aspects of life to comment on.

A quick note to my friends in Northern Virginia. Hope you're doing well!
